Description
Superior performance in partial state-of-charge and extreme temperature applications. The 12V 100Ah Lead Carbon Battery (Group 27) is designed for solar, off-grid, RV, and other demanding energy-storage systems where batteries many not return to a full charge every day or must operate in challenging temperatures.
With an operating range of −30°C to +60°C for charging, discharging and storage, it provides dependable year-round performance without the low-temperature charging restrictions associated with many lithium batteries.
Unlike conventional AGM and flooded batteries, lead carbon technology is especially well suited to partial state of charge (PSoC) operation. Carbon additives in the negative plate help reduce sulfation and improve charging efficiency, providing longer cycle life and more dependable performance in demanding cycling applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does partial state of charge mean?
Partial state of charge, or PSoC, means that a battery operates for extended periods without being fully recharged. This is common in solar and off-grid systems when available charging energy is limited by weather, season or daily energy use.
Why is lead carbon well suited to PSoC operation?
Carbon additives in the negative plate improve charge acceptance and help reduce sulfation. This allows a lead carbon battery to perform more reliably when it regularly operates at partial charge.
Can this battery operate in extreme temperatures?
Yes. The VTC12-100 can be charged, discharged and stored from −30°C to +60°C. This wide operating range makes it well suited to Canadian winters, hot equipment enclosures, remote installations and other environments with significant temperature changes.
By comparison, many conventional AGM batteries are rated approximately from −15°C to +45°C. Standard LiFePO₄ batteries commonly cannot be charged below 0°C without built-in heating or low-temperature charging protection. Always consult the specifications for the individual battery being compared.
What is a lead carbon battery?
A lead carbon battery is an advanced lead-acid battery that incorporates carbon additives into the negative plate. This improves charge acceptance, reduces sulfation and extends cycle life compared with conventional AGM and flooded batteries.
Is lead carbon better than AGM?
It depends on the application. Lead carbon batteries generally offer an advantage in solar, off-grid and other high-cycling systems where batteries may remain partially charged. AGM batteries may still be appropriate for standby applications that remain fully charged most of the time.
Is this battery suitable for solar systems?
Yes. Its strong PSoC performance, high charge acceptance and resistance to sulfation make it especially suitable for solar energy storage systems where a full recharge may not occur every day.
Can I replace an AGM battery with lead carbon?
Yes, provided the voltage, dimensions, terminal type and required capacity are suitable. Confirm that the charger, inverter or solar charge controller can be configured according to the charging specifications in the battery data sheet.
Does this battery require maintenance?
No. This is a sealed, maintenance-free battery and does not require watering.
Is this battery available for shipping?
Due to its size and weight, this battery is available for in-store purchase only. Contact us to confirm availability or ask about local delivery options.
